Hey Dire,

just curious, why do you not want to DL the show off Speedingarrow? As a fellow bittorrent-ophobe (at least i remember you saying you were one) I find mp3 accessibility at S-arrow a treasure!

I've DL'd several excellent SBD-quality '77 shows from there already (I figure the cat's outta the bag now re: that site since i've seen so many people mention it; I was keeping mum about it for fear of losing the thing to too many users)..

Anyhow, just curious...

Hey man,

To be honest - i really don't have much against mp3's sound quality wise. I'd rather have the lossless of the show just in case someone else wants a copy and i need to send it. I dont want to "pollute the chain" or however the trading elite put it. I'm not sure how many LMA people here would be offended if i had to send an mp3 disc so i dont even offer if i know what i have is an mp3 disc. I personally don't buy into that whole thing - i am more a listener than a trading snob - mp3's work fine for me for the most part. I dont notice a whole lot of difference and i have a nice home and car system - it all depends on the source material, not lossless vs lossy.

Second reason is - my pc harddrive is currently pretty full and my first external is getting damn close. I haven't hooked up my second 500 gig external yet since it is tough for me to get under my computer "set up" with the cast and all. So i'm trying to avoid downloading at the moment - last thing i want is overloading anything. if something crashes, i know i can get it back from the tech people i use for my business - but that would cost some serious quid.

Hope that kinda explains it.

Dire

Yep, that's kinda what I assumed re: "polluting the food chain."

That's also why I rarely offer a trade b/c I know all I have is mp3 stuff that a lot of traders won't touch (non-lossless, i guess?)so i just DL them for my own, less discerning pleasure.

Still, if you ever want a copy of an mp3 from something I DL'd I'd be glad to send it along, should your PC become overcrowded, etc. (I'm finding the site to be an absolute gold mine and i'm DL-ing like crazy b/c of what happened a year ago here--not taking that for granted again.)

You heard 5-4-77 yet? I swear, every time I think the '77 well has run dry, I come across another priceless nugget like this....!

once i get the new external hooked up, i'll be doing the same while those sites are still standing. i feel the same as you - great for personal listening pleasure - im not sure i get the whole controversey, but then again, i'm pretty much technologically incompetant. glad there is someone else out here who feels the same way. most of my collection is lossless - been on the Archive for years. My mp3's are labelled as such - but i got no prob at all with downloading the puppies for crankin in the truck, smilin and gdtrfb!!! know what i mean man :)
